Tehran Times – ROSTOV, Iranian international striker Sardar Azmoun revealed that he has rejected the chance to play for Russian national football team after missing the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Azmoun, who was left out of Iran’s squad for 2014 World Cup by Carlos Queiroz, proved his quality at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup in Australia.

“After last summer’s World Cup a guy who was so close to Fabio Capello came to me and asked if I would like to play for Russia national team. Despite their superb financial bid I rejected it immediately because I’m an Iranian player who wants to play for Iran and I didn’t even think about that offer,” Azmoun told Tasnim News Agency.

Sardar also talked about his move from Rubin Kazan to Rostov and his future in European football.

“I had an offer from German Bundesliga this summer and I could have left Russia but Kurban Berdyev asked me to help him in Rostov so I joined him. I have a lot of plans for my future and I will definitely move to a well-known club in Europe next year,” the 20-year old striker added.
