Tasnim – DOHA, Iran defeated Bahrain 2-0 in Doha, Qatar, at the West Asian U-23 Football Federation (WAFF) Championship on Thursday.

Rouzbeh Cheshmi was on target in the 28th minute and Hossein Fazeli made it 2-0 in the 41st minute.

The Iranian team will play Saudi Arabia on Sunday in Group A.

“I think we should have been awarded two penalties against Bahrain. I believe that the referee was not good due to lack of concentration,” Iran coach Mohammad Khakpour said.

“I am proud of my boys. We are here to win the title not for entertainment,” he added.

WAFF is being held in Doha, Qatar from September 30 to October 14.

The competition will be used as a warm up for the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship which is also held in Qatar.
