Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Persepolis football club has retired Hadi Norouzi’s number 24 shirt after he passed away due to a heart attack in his sleep last Thursday.

“We have decided to retire number 24 jersey in the honor of Hadi Norouzi. We will put this shirt in the club’s museum,” Persepolis caretaker Ali Akbar Taheri told reporters.

The Persepolis captain was laid to rest at his hometown Kapourchal in Babol, North of Iran, on Saturday.

A number of Iranian sportsmen as well as about 20,000 fans attended the funeral.

Norouzi joined Persepolis in summer 2000 from Persepolis U-19. He had loan spells at Fajr Sepasi, Damash Iranian and Naft Tehran but spent majority of his career playing for Persepolis scoring 26 goals in 150 appearances.

His last appearance for the club was a 2-1 home loss to Saipa in IPL on September 16.
