Tasnim – TEHRAN, Iran Olympic football coach Mohammad Khakpour stepped down from his post after returning from the WAFF U-23 Championship in Qatar on Thursday.

Iran defeated Syria 2-0 in the final match in Doha Wednesday night.

Khakpour announced his resignation at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport.

“It’s not good time to resign. I don’t know what happened to him but I believe that Khakpour didn’t make the right decision since he had to announce his resignation in the Iran Football Federation’s technical committee,” Iran Olympic team manager Habib Kashani told reporters.

Former Iran defender Khakpour, who was one of Iran national team members in the 1998 World Cup in France, had been appointed as Iran U-23 football coach in December last year.
