Reza Ghoochannejhad: Charlton Athletic have got to stop shipping so many goals
South London Press – LONDON, Reza Ghoochannejhad reckons that Charlton are blessed with good attacking options – but admits that they need to stop shipping so many goals.
The Addicks dropped back into the Championship relegation zone after conceding three second-half goals at Brighton, losing 3-2 in Sussex.
Teen prospect Ademola Lookman put the Addicks ahead in the second minute with Ghoochannejhad doubling the advantage shortly after.
And in the first half the South Londoners’ counter-attacking cut Brighton apart – David Stockdale making three saves to prevent them putting the contest out of reach for the hosts.
Charlton will not have Patrick Bauer available for the visit of Leeds on Saturday as he serves a suspension for his red card at the Amex Stadium – the German was deemed to be the last man as he pulled back Bobby Zamora.
Ghoochannejhad said: “We have a lot of attacking options and can play with different ones every week. But that is not going to be enough right now.
‘It doesn’t matter how many good attackers we have – we have to be solid as a team and stop the goals we are conceding.
“We concede too many goals right now. That is not only up the defenders to stop it happening – we have to attack and defend together.
“We have to come up with a plan so that we are less naive. We are conceding too many goals too easily and that is something to work on.
“But we do have good attackers that can score us goals. That is a good thing. We need points – and to get them you need goals.”
