Esteghlal back to top with win against Gostaresh [VIDEO]

Loading...Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Esteghlal football team has returned to the top with a 2-1 win over Gostaresh Foolad in front of 80,000 fans at Tehran’s Azadi stadium on Friday.
Sajad Shahbazzadeh put the home side in front in the 32nd minute with a wonderful shot from edge of the penalty area. Mohsen Karimi doubled the lead for Esteghlal one minute before the half time to make it 2-0.
Gostaresh created a couple of chances but the only managed to reduce the deficit in the 90th minute when Shahram Goudarzi put the ball into the back of the net from inside the box.
Elsewhere, Naft edge past relegation strugglers Esteghlal Khouzestan 1-0. Substitute Issa Alekasir scored the only goal of the game for Naft in the 88th minute.
This season’s surprise Esteghlal Khuzestan held to a 1-1 draw against Saba, Malavand and Rah Ahan played out a goalles draw while Mashhad derby between Siah Jamegan and Padideh didn’t have a winner as they shared the points after a 1-1 draw.
Esteghlal is currently at the top with 39 points from 21 games, while Esteghlal Khuzestan and Persepolis are second and third respectively. Esteghlal Ahvaz is at the buttom with just nine points.
