Tehran Times – TASHKENT, Iran Under-16 football team lost 2-1 to Uzbekistan in a four-a-side tournament in Tashkent on Wednesday.

Vahid Namdari put Iran ahead in the 11th minute but Abdunozir Abdurakhmonov leveled the score for the visitors two minutes into the second half. Shukhrat Nematov made it 2-1 for the host in the 61st minute.

Hamid Alidoosti’s boys were held to a goalless draw against Japan in the first day of the tournament.

Iran will take on Turkmenistan in the final match of the competition on Friday.

Iran is preparing for the 2016 AFC U-16 Championship which will take place in India between 15 September and 2 October 2016.

A total of 16 teams will play in the tournament while the top four teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India as the AFC representatives, besides India who qualified automatically as host.
