Tasnim – TEHRAN, Iran football coach Carlos Queiroz said to gain three points against India is very important for them as they want to finish the group stage as the winner.

Iran will host India on Thursday in Group D of the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

“We need three points against India since we want to maintain our place in the table,” Queiroz said.

“On Thursday, We want to put on a good show at home and get the three points against India. I know so many Iranian fans are celebrating Nowruz at the moment but I thank the fans who will come to support us in the match against India,” the Portuguese added.

India head coach Stephen Constantine said they have nothing to lose against Iran and will try their best against the Asian giant.

“We have no chance to advance to the next stage but we will fight until the end. Iran is one of the Asian powerhouses but India has nothing to lose,” Constantine said in the pre-match news conference.

“We are going to stop conceding so many goals against Iran. Indian players have not come here to give up and as I said before we have nothing to lose,” the Englishman added.

“I think the match against Iran is a good opportunity for our young players to test their abilities,” he went on to say.

Iran will also play Oman on March 29.

Team Melli top Group D with 14 points, three points ahead of Oman.

India sits at the bottom of the group with three points.
