Tasnim – TEHRAN, Iran national football team coach Carlos Queiroz said his side could have scored more goals in their Asian World Cup Qualifiers tie against India.

Iran defeated India 4-0 in Group D in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Thursday.

“Our players’ motivations were high in this match. I believe that it was a beautiful match and we could have scored more goals,” Queiroz said in the post-match news conference.

Group D leader Iran will play Oman in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on March 29.

“We moved one step closer to our goal. Iran is still at top of the group and we want to advance to the next stage as the first team,” the Portuguese coach added.

Carlos Queiroz also paid tribute to “legend” Johan Cruyff after the former Barcelona coach died at the age of 68.

India football coach Stephen Constantine said Iran was dominant in possession in Asian World Cup Qualifiers.

“First of all, I congratulate this win to my dear friend Carlos Queiroz. It was a tough match for us since Iran was totally dominant,” Constantine said in the post-match news conference.

“To play at the Azadi Stadium was very tough, however, our players did their best. I wish Iran all the best in the match against Oman,” the Englishman added.

Iran stays Group D leader with 17 points ahead of its final match against Oman on March 29.
