Tehran Times – ISFAHAN, Former Sepahan football team head coach Igor Stimac believes that he has done his best at the Iranian club but things never went on his way.

“After losing against Al Ittihad I decided to quit although the club officials were still behind me. We did great work at Sepahan and I think I have not done better in any other team in my coaching career but some issues ate out of coach’s hands,” Stimac said.

“The team’s average has been lowered six years during my spell as I fielded very young players. We played very well as we were the better side in most of the games but we couldn’t convert our goal opportunities while we suffered referees’ mistakes too,” he added.

“I have beautiful memories of living in Isfahan. It is a very beautiful touristic city but the traffic is awful. At the end I have to say that my job at Sepahan was with a right team at the wrong time,” he added.

“I’m now back to Croatia enjoying the holidays but as you know my life is all about football so I will return in the near future,” he added.

Stimac replaced Hossein Faraki in November but was forced to withdraw from Isfahan-based team after a poor run of results. He managed to win just three games in his 22 match spell at the club, losing 10 and drawing nine.
