Football-News – SEREMBAN, Iran have been in great form throughout this calendar year, Syria came as outsiders but still in contest for the top three positions. Iran travels to face Syria as favourites in great form, looking to bag three points and end the year at Asia World Cup Qualifications Group A top spot.

Iran has largely built towards consistency in the last couple of years under Carlos Queiroz and demonstrated strength in Asian football, They have qualified for World Cup 2014 in Brazil and hold out to a draw against Nigeria, with tight losses to Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina in a very tough Group F.

They have now won ten of their last eleven matches, with only a draw at China in September, proving favourites to top the Group A.

Syria indeed don’t seem to have the quality to oppose and cause damage to Team Melli World Cup campaign, although they showed character and bagged four points in their four matches.

The Qasioun Eagles took home all three points at China with a winner from Al Mawas and held to a goalless draw against Korea Republic, and currently, stand 4th. However, they’ll have to look for their chance elsewhere as Iran looks very confident and ready to take all three points here.

The Team Melli have netted four and conceded no goals this campaign, which is rather impressive defensive performance. We thus don’t expect to see them concede to Syria. Manager Queiroz will want Reza Ghoochannejhad leading the attacking line as he’s in a great form recently scoring three goals in the last five matches for Heerenveen.

As said, both teams haven’t scored or conceded many goals; Iran currently being 4-0 and Syria with 2-1 goal difference in four matches. While Iran will have to move in for all three points to end a successful year in style, we will not see many all-out attacks.
