Persepolis claim PGPL title with games to spare [VIDEO]
AFC – TABRIZ, Persepolis claimed the Iran Pro League title on Saturday after a 2-0 away win at Machine Sazi handed them an unassailable 12-point lead at the top of the table with three games still to play.
An early Ali Alipour strike coupled with Mehdi Taremi’s 70th minute penalty proved the difference as Persepolis secured all three points to see off the chasing pack’s challenge and claim their tenth top-flight crown.
Head coach Branko Ivankovic will now no doubt be hoping that his side’s domestic success can be repeated on the continental stage where the Tehran-based team currently occupy third spot in Group D of this season’s AFC Champions League with matches against Al Hilal and Al Wahda to come.
