Iran remain Asia’s best in latest FIFA Rankings

AFC – Kuala Lumpur, Islamic Republic of Iran have maintained their position as Asia’s best after an impressive end to the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 Asian Qualifiers, in the latest FIFA Rankings released on Thursday.

Iran concluded their 2018 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers with a 2-2 draw against Syria, to remain unbeaten in 10 games, but dropped one position to 25th.

Japan moved up four places to 40th to be Asia’s second best, after securing a 2-0 win over Australia to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. The Socceroos, who will face Syria in the Regional Play-off on October 5 and 10, fell five rungs to 50th.

Korea Republic and Saudi Arabia, who achieved automatic qualification for the World Cup, are ranked 51st and 53rd respectively to complete Asia’s top five teams.

Yemen were Asia’s best movers, climbing 18 positions to 128th, after maintaining their undefeated run in the AFC Asian Cup United Arab Emirates 2019 Qualifiers.

China PR moved up to Asia’s sixth best at 62nd after Marcello Lippi’s side claimed two successive wins against Uzbekistan and Qatar to finish fifth in Group A of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
