Tehran Times – MUSCAT, Persepolis failed to book a spot in the 2017 AFC Champions League final after being held by Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Being beaten 4-0 in the first leg of the semi-final, Persepolis drew 2-2 with Al Hilal in Muscat’s Sulatan Qaboos Stadium.

Godwin Menshah gave the Iranian team the lead in the 16th minute with a header.

In the 30th minute, Omani referee Ahmed Abu Bakar Said Al Kaf made a mistake awarding a penalty to Al Hilal. TV replays showed the Saudi Arabian player was brought down by Persepolis defender Mohammad Ansari outside the penalty area.

Omar Kharbin calmly chipped the resulting penalty past goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand.

Persepolis Nigerian striker was on target once again just after the hour mark but Kharbin ensured there would be no way back for Persepolis with 14 minutes on the clock.
