The Tehran derby is Asia’s best derby: Winfried Schafer

Loading...Tehran Times – TEHRAN, German coach Winfried Schafer says that he thinks Tehran derby between Esteghlal and Persepolis is the most important derby in Asia.
Schafer will experience his first Tehran derby in Iran Professional League in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Thursday.
Schafer has already worked in Thailand national football team and Emirati clubs Al Ahli and Al Ain and knows football of Asia.
“First of all, I have to say the Tehran derby is the best derby in Asia. We want to win the derby and we have to think there are two derbies inserted one derby,” Schafer said in the pre-match news conference.
“I am sure we can defeat Persepolis on Thursday. We are deeply grateful to all of our supporters who will help us in this match. I cannot tell them we are playing for a draw because we will try to win the match. We want to see them happy after the final whistle,” he added.
“Persepolis are a strong team but we will take advantage of their weak points. We know that they are the best Iranian team at the moment but Esteghlal will do their best. Esteghlal players are unbelievably ready for derby,” Schafer stated.
