AFC – ZARQA CITY, Despite beating Palestine 4-0, Islamic Republic of Iran face a nervous wait before knowing their AFC U-19 Championship 2018 fate.

Iran were in great form in their win over Palestine but their fate depends on the Jordan-Syria tie which will be played later on Wednesday.

Iran drew against both teams – 1-1 with Syria and 0-0 with Jordan – and are now on five points. Jordan and Syria are on four with the hosts ahead on goal difference.

Having had to settle for draws in their earlier matches, Iran went in for maximum points against already-eliminated Palestine at the Prince Mohammad International Stadium and took the lead in the 10th minute through striker Hossein Nokhodkar.

The second goal followed just four minutes later with Alireza Ghaderi Zefreh (pictured above, No 21) the goalscorer.

Mohammad Khodabandehlo added a third just before half-time and Iran were cruising.

They somewhat took their foot off the pedal in the second half but there was to be a fourth goal, with Mohammad Bagheri finding the back of the net in the 75th minute.

Jordan overcame the setback of going behind against Syria as they advanced to the AFC U-19 Championship 2018 by winning Group E of the Qualifiers at the Prince Mohammad International Stadium on Wednesday.
