Financial Tribune – ATHENS, Iranian national soccer team player Ehsan Haj-Safi takes a closer step toward the famous Greek football club Olympiacos as teams are approaching the January transfer market.

According to Gazzetta.gr website, Haj-Safi’s agent Mohammad-Reza Fazeli met Evangelos Marinakis, club owner, and Christian Karembeu, a strategic advisor of the team, to negotiate over Haj-Safi’s transfer to Olympiacos. Based on the unofficial reports, the deal is almost done.

Haj-Safi, 27, is currently playing at another Greek club Panionios F.C. as a defender. In Team Melli, he is regarded as a utility player, being able to play as a left midfielder, left-back, defensive midfielder and winger, Varzesh3.com reported.

In 2009, Haj-Safi was selected by Goal.com as the most promising player in Asian football. He has represented Iran at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. He has also played for Sepahan of Iran at the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup.

Founded in 1925, Olympiacos is the most successful club in Greek football history. It has won 44 Greek League titles, 27 Greek Cups and 4 Greek Super Cups (which makes a total of 75 national titles).

Olympiacos’ dominating success can be further evidenced by the fact that all other Greek clubs have won a combined total of 37 League titles. The team is currently No. 1 in the Greece Superleague table this season.
