Tasnim – HAMBURG, Ex-Iran winger Mehdi Mahdavikia says the match against Morocco will be one of Team Melli’s toughest matches in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Iran will begin its campaign in Russia against Morocco on 15 June in St Petersburg.

“I think Iran’s first match against Morocco will be very difficult. It can be a decider match for Team Melli,” Mahdavikia told Gol Bezan website.

“If Iran wants to qualify for the second round it will have to beat Morocco. Team Melli is drawn in a very difficult groups. Iran defended well against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup and I have to say we are a very good defensive team but Iran must strengthen its attacking line,” he added.

“Football is unpredictable but we have to be optimistic. I think to beat Morocco is very difficult but Carlos Queiroz should choose the best way for upcoming matches against Morocco, Spain and Portugal,” Mahdavikia stated.
