Leicester Mercury – LEICESTER, City named alongside Everton, Celtic, Wolves and Fulham in race for Iran’s Sardar Azmoun.

Leicester City have been linked with a move for World Cup-bound hotshot Sardar Azmoun.

City have,  according to the Sunday People, joined Everton, Celtic, Wolves and Fulham in a transfer tussle for the 23-year-old Rubin Kazan striker, who will represent Iran in Russia this summer.

While Azmoun’s record for Kazan isn’t great – just four goals in 26 appearances this season – his international strike-rate is exceptional, netting 23 goals in 31 caps for Iran.

However, a City bid for Azmoun seems unlikely given the glut of strikers on the books at the King Power Stadium.

City have Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaki and Kelechi Iheanacho as their options in attack with Claude Puel loaning out Leo Ulloa, Islam Slimani and Ahmed Musa in January to give the squad “more balance”.

Azmoun’s international team-mate Saman Ghoddos, also a forward, has been linked with a transfer to City in recent months too.
