Beaten but not out: Queiroz confirms Iran contract offer
Daily Nation – SARANSK, Carlos Queiroz has confirmed that he has been offered the option to extend his contract with Iran for a further six months after his side were eliminated from the World Cup.
Karim Ansarifard’s VAR-awarded stoppage-time penalty was not enough to save Iran on Monday, as Portugal held firm to secure a 1-1 draw and a place in the last 16 – Mehdi Taremi wasting a gilt-edged chance to hand Queiroz’s side the points in the dying embers of the game.
Queiroz had been expected to leave his post at the end of Iran’s participation in the tournament, but confirmed in his post-match press conference that a proposal for an extension was on the table.
“I can confirm that I receive one proposal to extend my contract, for six months more. But now it’s not time to talk about the future,” he said.
“It’s a great honour for me, but it’s not the right moment to talk about that. It’s the right moment to say thank you to my players. They have been fantastic.
“I don’t have words to express what I feel in this moment. As you can see, I’m not a good loser.”
