Football League Wolrd – LONDON, West Brom are set to fight it out with Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers for Iran defender Milad Mohammadi.

The left-back, who can also play left-midfield, is currently playing in Russia for Akhmat Grozny and featured at the World Cup for his country.

Fans may remember Mohammadi as the man who tried the bizarre acrobatic throw-in that went wrong in the final minutes of their 1-0 defeat to Spain.

However, he has done enough to attract interest from the Glasgow pair and Albion, according to Football Insider, who suggest the trio will battle it out for his signature.

The report adds that the Russian top-flight side are set to demand £3m for the 24-year old, however he has just 12 months left on his current contract with the club.

Therefore, the potential buyers are hopeful that they could get him at a cut-price.

Darren Moore is looking for defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season, with Kieran Gibbs the only natural left-back at the club and reports earlier in the window revealed there was strong Premier League interest in the former Arsenal man.

The Verdict

It’s hard to judge Mohammadi as many fans of the three clubs won’t have seen him play but he has been playing in the Russian Premier League so it’s a decent standard.

As well as that, he has 21 caps for Iran and they were very competitive at the World Cup, highlighting that they have some good players.

The obvious concern for Albion would be seeing off Celtic and Rangers who could potentially offer the player European football, although if it comes to finances the Championship side may have the edge.
