Tough task ahead of Iran to win AFC Asian Cup: Carlos Queiroz
Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Iran national football team head coach Carlos Queiroz says the AFC Asian Cup is completely different with the FIFA World Cup but winning the title will be a tough task for Team Melli.
The Portuguese coach said they are going to end their 43-year wait to become champions of Asia.
Iran have not won the title since 1976 where Team Melli crowned champions for the third time in a row.
Iran are pitted against Iraq, Yemen and Vietnam in the competition which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from 5 January to 1 February 2019.
“Football is an easy game and I have always tried to get things easily in my life. Football is an easy game and behaviors and decision should be easy. I wake up every morning trying to be a better person and a coach, making fewer mistake than previous day,” Queiroz said in an interview with Iran Football Federation’s website.
“How can I become a better person? The question is. The only way to be a better person is to know each other well. When we wake up in the morning we must be determined to succeed and say ourselves we have a more knowledge about the way ahead of us and our teamwork. If we want to progress we need to know more about our opponents and what they experience,” the Portuguese added.
“Time to wake up. My responsibility as a coach is to announce a make-up call and my responsibility is to lead my organization to our target. My wake-up call is to say the issues. Our biggest challenge in the UAE is winning the title after 43 years. We’ve not won the title since 1976,” ex-Real Madrid coach said.
“We had a good performance at the 2018 World Cup but it will be very funny saying that to win the title in the Asian Cup is easy. Don’t forget that Australia, South Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia will participate in the Asian Cup and are favorites to win the title,” Queiroz said.
