Iran crowned Qatar U-23 Four-Nation Tournament Champion
Tasnim – DOHA, Iran defeated Qatar 2-1 on Monday to win the Qatar U-23 Four-Nation Football Tournament.
In the final day of the competition, which was held at the Aspire Academy in Doha, Zlatko Kranjcar’s team beat Qatar 2-1.
Mehdi Khani opened the scoring for the Iranian team just two minutes into the match.
Allahyar Sayyadmanesh extended Iran’s lead in the 17th minute.
Qatar’s Abdorazzaq pulled a goal back in the 70th minute.
Iran started the competition with a 2-1 loss to Tajikistan but beat Kuwait 5-0 in its second match.
Iran finished in first place with six points and a better goal difference.
Tajikistan came second with six points, while Qatar and Kuwait finished in third and fourth places respectively with three points.
Iran is preparing for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Championship 2020.
The team has been drawn along with Iraq, Yemen and Turkmenistan in Group C.
The AFC U-23 Championship 2020 is scheduled to take place in Thailand. It will act as the AFC qualifiers for the men’s football tournament at the 2020 Olympics.
