AFC – KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Asian teams will be vying for Continental glory when the 10th edition of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Thailand 2019 kicks off in Bangkok on August 7.

To mark its commemorative milestone, the-AFC.com celebrates the remarkable progress of club futsal in Asia.

Over the years, there were many classic encounters which saw entertaining draws or a shock result, here’s some of our picks:

2010: Foolad Mahan Sepahan 5-2 Al Saad

Powered by the evergreen Vahid Shamsaee, Foolad Mahan Sepahan of Islamic Republic of Iran were a force to be reckoned in the inaugural AFC Futsal Championship Isfahan 2010.

Foolad Mahan reached the final unbeaten and were up against Qatar’s Al Sadd, who had Iranian Zahir Kamyab leading the charge for the West Asians.

Shamsaee and Kamyab amassed 15 goals each but it was Shamsaee who won the battle as his two goals in the final steered Foolad Mahan to a 5-2 victory with Kamyab having a quiet night at the Pirouzi Stadium.

Shamsaee went on to win the MVP and Top Goalscorer Award with 17 goals, two more than his countryman.

2017: Bluewave Chonburi 3-2 Sanaye Giti Pasand

Suphawut Thueanklang’s hat-trick in the 2017 final against Islamic Republic of Iran’s Sanaye Giti Pasand was the icing on the cake as Bluewave Chonburi clinched their second AFC Futsal Club Championship title in Ho Chi Minh CIty.

Chonburi, armed with Jirawat Sornwichian, Kritsada Wongkaeo, Rudimar Venancio and Thueanklang in their attacking arsenal, were flawless throughout the tournament scoring 24 goals in the run-up to the final.

They were up against a star-studded Giti Pasand, who were powered by two-time AFC Futsal Player of the Year Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh and Ahmad Esmaeilpour.

In the final, Thueanklang opened the scoring with two quick-fire goals in the 13th minute before Esmaeilpour and Hassanzadeh levelled the score two minutes after the restart.

Giti Pasand’s celebrations were short lived as Thueanklang curled his effort past goalkeeper Sepehr Mohammadi just seconds later to complete his hat-trick as Chonburi held on for the win.
