AFC – KUALA LUMPUR, Islamic Republic of Iran headline Group C of the Asian Qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 with Iraq, Bahrain, Hong Kong and Cambodia equally determined to shine.

The eight group winners and four best runners-up will advance to the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Finals and the final round of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.

However, should Qatar – who have already qualified as hosts – win their group, the seven other group winners and five best second-placed sides will advance to the final round of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA Ranking: 23
AFC Asian Cup Finals Record: Champions (1968, 1972, 1976)
FIFA World Cup Finals Record: Five group stage appearances
Head Coach: Marc Wilmots (BEL)

Despite good performances in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, there was only disappointment at the end for Iran as their Russia 2018 campaign ended in the group stage while they fell in the semi-finals at UAE 2019.

Team Melli, however, remain Asia’s top-ranked side and having hired Marc Wilmots as Carlos Queiroz’s replacement as head coach, Iran will be confident of sealing a third consecutive FIFA World Cup appearance.
