Bochum relegated from Bundesliga
PFDC – BOCHUM, Vfl Bochum needed a home victory against Hannover 96 in order to avoid relegation, however, suffered a 0-3 defeat and will play in Bundesliga 2 next season.
Vahid Hashemian played the full 90 minutes in his probably last game for Bochum and possibly in German Bundesliga, as his contract runs out this summer. He was one of the few players at least appearing dangerous, however, he failed to make a difference in the end, also because Bochum’s midfield simply was unable to overtake the initiative and repeatedly sent long balls forward which could be cleared rather easily by Hannover’s defense.
The 33-year-old striker was the last of a formerly proud Iranian contingent in German’s highest league and is now likely to return to Iran’s Professional League (IPL) after 11 seasons in Germany.
While Hannover 96 rescued themselves with the win, Hertha Berlin and Bochum, who had no less than four different headcoaches this season, are directly relegated and FC Nuremberg will compete in a relegation playoff against the third-placed team of the second league.
