Iran to play 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosts

MNA – DUBAI, Iran football team is scheduled to play Russia, who has been named the host of 2018 World Cup, in early February.
Iran will go head to head with Russia on February 9, 2011 in Dubai, the UAE.
“We had reached an agreement with the team before they were chosen to host the 2018 World Cup. Also Iran’s Under-23 team will play Russia’s U-23 team there,” Abbas Torabian Director of the International Committee of Iran Football Federation (IFF) said.
Afshin Ghotbi has said he will not be Iran football coach after the 2011 AFC Asian Cup which will be held in January. This means the Persians will be led by a new coach in their match facing Russia.
Iran will play a friendly football match versus Qatar ahead of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup.
The Persians are scheduled to face the Qataris on December 28 in Abu Dhabi, the UAE in preparation for the Asian Cup.
Iran has been drawn along with defending champion Iraq, DPR Korea and the UAE in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, which takes place from January 7 to 20 in Qatar.
