QueirozISNA – TEHRAN, Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz hopes his talks with Iranian Football Federation (IFF) officials on leading national team bear results.

Queiroz who has already led Portuguese, South African and Real Madrid teams, said, “this is the first time that I travel to Iran, I should see the situation. I cannot make comments at the moment.”

“I like to lead Iranian team. I hope to cooperate in the team. What is important is expectations of IFF officials, off course I have my own expectations as well,” he told reporters upon his arrival in Tehran.

“I have a good understanding of Iranian national team. I have seen matches of the squad in Asian Cup and I only know that you have talented players, but nothing more.”
IFF managers and Queiroz are to sit with each other on Tuesday and sign a contract if everything goes well.

Former Real Madrid boss Carlos Queiroz is close to being appointed as Team Melli’s new head coach.

The 57-year-old is expected to sign a three-year-deal with the Iranian football Federation officials this week, if the two sides reach an agreement.

Iran has been without a coach since being eliminated in quarterfinals of Asian Cup on January 22 and Afshin Ghotbi’s departure to Shimizu S-Pulse.
