Osasuna remain in La Liga
PFDC – PAMPLONA, A 41st minute strike from Cejudo didn’t only secure a 1-0 victory over Villareal in the last round of Sapnish Primera Division and guarantee a non-relegation spot, but also lifted Osasuna to an amazing ninth place in the final table – one behind a UEFA Euro League spot.
As always, Javad Nekounam started for Osasuna in defensive midfield. The Iranian showed an excellent performance, however, limped off the field injured after a heavy tackling and eventually had to be subbed out after 71 minutes.
His countryman Masoud Shojaei was still sidelined with a toe injury.
The future for the Iranian duo at Osasuna is still uncertain, as both of the midfielders contracts run out this summer.
However, strong displays throughout the seasons by both make it likely the club will be eager to renew the contracts. Reportedly, in Nekounam’s case it is only a matter of financial details.
Should the negotiations fail, both Nekounam and Shojaei shouldn’t be short of European offers.
