nouri_pp_happy_2011MNA – TEHRAN, Persepolis took a big step toward Iran’s Hazfi Cup title after a convincing victory over Malavan in the first leg of the final match on Tuesday.

The four-time winner Persepolis swept past Malavan 4-2 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in front of about 80,000 spectators.

Mohammad Rostami put Malavan in the lead in the 34th minute but the visitors were reduced to 10-man squad when Abolhasan Jafari brought down Persepolis striker outside the penalty box in the 38th minute.

Alireza Nourmohammadi equalized the match two minutes into the second half. Hadi Noruzi scored Persepolis’ second goal in the 63rd minute but his goal was cancelled out by Mohammad Nozhati in the 63rd minute.

Persepolis’ Mohammad Nouri increased the lead to 3-2 in the 72nd minute. Mohammad Nouri scored again from the penalty spot with just five minutes remaining.

“We had come here to win the match and accomplished that. We were dominant in the second half and kept the control of the match. Persepolis could have won the match with more goals. I hope that we beat Malavan in the second leg and win the championship,” Persepolis coach Ali Daei said during the post match news conference.

Persepolis will meet Malavan in Anzali on Friday in the second leg of the Iran’s Hazfi Cup final.
