PFDC – BANDAR ANZALI, Despite a deserved 1-0 defeat against Underdog Malavan Anzali on Friday at the Caspian Sea, Ali Daei and Perspolis Tehran can call themselves five time winners of the Persian Gulf Hazfi Cup after defeating Malavan 4-2 in the first leg on last Tuesday at Azadi Stadium.

Malavan clearly dominated the first half of the Hazfi Cup final and deservedly took the lead in the 18th minute by a beautiful header from Mehrdad Oladi after a nice cross by Heydari.

Anzali was close to score the second goal which would have ensured the Cup victory for the Blue-White swans. Oladi (34′) and Pejman Nouri with a nice shot (44′) were not able to extend the lead.

Ali Daei’s men displayed a slightly better performance in the second half but it was Malavan again who tried to play goalwards.

Only Perspolis’ Mohammad Nouri cared for a vital sign of the Tehran giant’s offensive section (50′).

Former Deportivo Xerez target Mehrdad Oladi couldn’t benefit from blunders in the Tehran defence and failed to score almost from close range (58′, 69′, 79′).

This year’s Hazfi Cup winner Perspolis, who defeated the Iranian champions Sepahan Esfahan in the quartferfinals and Foolad Khuzestan in semis, automatically qualified for next year’s Asian Champions League tournament after failing to gain an ACL spot in the Iranian Persian Gulf League.
