I wanted to cheer up Masoud Shojaei, Nekounam says
MNA – PAMPLONA, Iranian Osasuna midfielder Javad Nekounam said he wanted to cheer up his injured teammate Masoud Shojaei by dedicating his goal to him.
Osasuna produced a dominant display to blow away Real Zaragoza 3-0 at the Reyno de Navarra on Sunday.
Nekounam scored his team’s third goal with a fantastic header and then showed No. 8 with his fingers, pointing Shojaei’s number in Osasuna.
Shojaei has undergone surgery for his left foot last week and could return from the injury after five months.
“I dedicated my goal to Masoud to encourage him. He is very sad and I hope that he will return to action as soon as possible,” Nekounam said.
“He was happy since it was our second victory in the current season. I just hope that everything goes well for Masoud. It is not easy for a player to be operated five times a year,” Nekounam told Osasuna’s website.
