Iranians in Europe draw, Queiroz in Belgium
PFDC – WOLFSBURG, After his stunning debut for Iran, Ashkan Dejagah started for Vfl Wolfsburg in German Bundesliga on Saturday, showing another pleasing performance.
The 25-year-old had a good display on the right wing in Wolfsburg’s goalless draw against Kaiserslautern and almost set up a two goals, however, was unlucky his good servings were wasted by the strikers.
The certainly exhausted Dejagah was, however, subbed out after 57 minutes.
Meanwhile Javad Nekounam only played the final four minutes of Osasuna’s disappointing 1-1 draw with struggling Mallorca in La Liga on Saturday. The Team Melli captain was given a rare rest on the bench following his national team committement midweek.
Iran boss Carlos Queiroz, however, went to see another possible Team Melli candidate, Reza Ghoochannejhad of Belgian club St. Truiden.
‘Gucci’, as the striker is nicknamed, had an impressive run in the first season half, before being sidelined for weeks by an injury early this year.
After returning to the pitch late in a draw last week, ‘Gucci’ this time came on as a 69th minute substitute in a 1-0 win over Zulte Waregem.
Queiroz had already watched the nimble Mashad-born striker once last year and is obviously planning to add the 24-year-old former Heerenveen man, who already scored 11 goals in League and Cup this season, to Iran’s squad.
