PFDC – DUBAI, A 0-1 seminfinal defeat to Al Ahli crushed Mohammad-Reza Khalatbari’s and Al Wasl’s hopes of winning the UAE Etisalat Cup and qualifying for next year’s Asian Champions League.

A second half goal from striker Faisal Khalil was enough to down Diego Maradona’s men and advance to the final, where Al Ahli will face Al Shabab.

Iranian international Mohammad-Reza Khalatbari played the full 90 minutes and was Al Wasl’s most dangerous player, however, unfortunately due to poor finishing missed four excellent scoring opportunities alone in second half.

The nimble winger also set up a couple of chances, but targetman Olivera also failed to capitalize on his chances.

Khalatbari had joined Al Wasl from Qatar’s Al Gharafa during the winter transfer window and impressed with several good performances and goals for the before uninspired Al Wasl.

Al Wasl stand in fifth position of the UAE League after 14 of 22 rounds, nine points behind leaders Al Ain but only five points behind the third place, which would be enough to qualify for the next edition of the Asian Champions League.

Maradona’s men will face third placed Al Jazeera in a vital league clash next Thursday.
