Iran thrash Australia in AFC futsal cup
PressTV – DUBAI, The Iranian national team has trounced Australia to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2012 AFC Futsal Championship in the United Arab Emirates.
In its third and final game of the group stages, Iran picked up where it had left off in the previous two games and gave the Australian side a 9-0 drubbing at the Al Wasl Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
Mohammad Taheri, Vahid Shamsaee, and Ali Asqar Hassan Zadeh each bagged a brace for Iran, while Qodrat Bahadori, Hossein Tayyebi, and Javad Asqari Moqaddam contributed a goal each.
In its first two games in Group C, the Iranian squad had eased past South Korea and Qatar, 14-1 and 8-0 respectively.
Iran will now face Group D runners-up Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals in what will be a repeat of the 2010 tournament’s final where Iran blanked its opponent 8-3.
Iran has won the AFC Futsal Championship 10 times in the last 11 tournaments.
