PressTV – TEHRAN, Persepolis has suffered a shocking defeat from Damash in the fifth week of Iran’s Premier League, one week ahead of Tehran derby, as its archrival Esteghlal tied with Malavan 1-1.

The Reds suffered their third defeat of the current season of the IPL at Rasht’s Azodi stadium on Sunday.

The 10-man Damash edged past Persepolis thanks to Hossein Ebrahimi’s solo in the 68th minute.

Persepolis has invested millions of dollars in veteran Portuguese manager Manuel Jose and many expensive players but it has only gained four points from five matches.

In Tehran, Mohammad Nozhati scored the opener for Malavan in the 23rd minute of the match but the Blues equalized the match in the 73rd minute.

The two popular clubs of Persepolis and Esteghlal are set to meet this Friday in Tehran’s derby.

In other matches of the day, Gahar Zagros beat Zob Ahan 1-0 in Karaj’s Enqelab stadium. Teraktorsazi and Naft Abadan’s match ended 3-2 for the hosts in Tabriz.

On Saturday, Saipa defeated defending champion Sepahan 2-0 in Isfahan.

In other matches held on Friday, Peykan overcame Naft Tehran 2-1, Aluminum Hormozgan and Rah Ahan played out a 1-1 draw, the match between Saba and Fajr Sepasi ended with the same result, and Mes beat Foulad 1-0.

Malavan is now on top of the table with 11 points, Teraktorsazi is second on goal difference, and Sepahan, Saba, Fajr Sepasi, and Saipa are third to sixth all with 10 points.
