Tehran derby ends in goalless draw [VIDEO]

Loading...TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, The Tehran derby between Esteghlal and Persepolis football teams ended in a goalless draw here on Friday.
In the match held at the Azadi Stadium in front of about 90,000 spectators, Persepolis was the better team in the first half and created some chances. Ali Karimi hit the bar in the 5th minute. In the 31st minute also Mohammad Ghazi failed to score after receiving a good pass from Karimi.
It was a lackluster match in the second half; especially, the play was suspended for some minutes after the fans of the two teams threw stones and the other objects into the field.
“I would like the match finished with the goal, however, I am satisfied with the result. I also understood Esteghlal could win the title at the end of the season,” Esteghlal coach Amir Ghalenoei said.
Esteghlal and Persepolis have played against each other 75 times, with Esteghlal winning 24 games, Persepolis taking 18 victories, and 33 matches ending in a draw.
