IRN-KOR-KarimiGOAL – SEOUL, South Korea coach Choi Kang-Hee on Wednesday announced his squad for the team’s upcoming World Cup qualifier on October 16 at Iran.

Korea, currently on top of Group A with seven points from three matches, will have to face Team Melli without talisman Lee Dong-Gook, who was left out of the lineup due to fatigue and poor form.

In his place will be Celta Vigo striker Park Chu-Young, who recently made a splash in becoming the first Korean player to score a goal in Spain’s Liga.

He wil be joined by Hamburg’s Son Heung-Min, who scored a superb brace in last weekend’s shock 3-2 win against reigning Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund.

Choi chose to replace the majority of his defenders, who he believes played poorly in Korea’s 2-2 draw at Uzbekistan earlier this month. Newcomers include Kim Young-Kwon, who left Japan’s Omiya Ardija for Chinese Super League frontrunners Gwangzhou Evergrande earlier this month.
