Queiroz not to coach Iran in WAFF championship
PFDC – TEHRAN, Team Melli boss Carlos Queiroz will not helm the Iranian B team for the West Asian Football Confederation (WAFF) championship in Kuwait, which will kick off on December 8.
Queiroz left Iran quickly after the shock defeat to Uzbekistan and will remain in Europe for the next weeks, where he will also observe and scout players, such as Eintracht Braunschweig goalkeeper Daniel Davari.
Iran have been grouped with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen for the 2012 WAFF championship and will need to finish first in the group to certainly advance to the semifinal stage.
The tournament is usually used to give new and young players a chance, but some teams also bring the full A national teams.
Probably Queiroz’s assistants Antonio Simoes, Omid Namazi and Dan Gaspar will lead the team through the tournament.
Queiroz has already named an experimental preliminary squad for the competition, which includes many national team reserves and youngsters.
