Press TV – RASHT, Damash has defeated Esteghlal in the 17th week of Iran’s Premier League (IPL) and remained on the second spot of the table at the end of the first half of the season.

Host Damash blanked the Blues 1-0 at Azodi stadium in the northern city of Rasht on Tuesday.

The first half of the match was played to a scoreless draw thanks to Esteghlal’s goalkeeper Seyyed Mehdi Rahmati’s shining performance, which did not allow the 10-man team to lose a point.

Damash Burkinabé-Malian striker Boubacar Djeidy Kébé scored the sole goal five minutes to the final whistle in his debut for the Rasht-based team.

In other matches of the 17th week, Tabriz-based popular club Teraktorsazi defeated host Persepolis 1-0, Foulad trounced Naft Tehran 3-1, Malavan pummeled Zob Ahan 3-2, Rah Ahan blanked Fajr Sepasi 1-0, Saipa tied with Gahar 2-2, Aluminum leveled with Sepahan 1-1, Peikan drew scoreless with Naft Abadan, and the encounter between Mes and Saba finished in a goalless draw.

Sepahan is currently on top of the IPL table with 31 points followed by Esteqlal with the same points. Foulad, Malavan, and Rah Ahan are third to fifth respectively all with 29 points.
