Persianfootball.com – LIEGE, Reza Ghoochannejhad finally scored his first goal for Standard Liege, as the Beligian giants defeated Lokeren 4-3 and clinched the fourth place in the final ranking, which means they will compete in a final two-legged playoff for a Europa League spot next season.

With little at stake, coach Rednic gave some reserves a chance to start on Sunday, among them Iranian international striker Reza Ghoochannejhad, who had to be subbed out ten minutes into second half with muscular problems.

Ghoochannjhad thanked the Romanian with the 1-1 equalizer after 19 minutes, when he met a corner kick at the near post and  headed it into the goal.

The minor injury won’t sideline the Iranian though and he should already be availble for the first playoff match against Gent on Wednesday.

The return match will take place on Sunday May 26, after which Ghoochannejhad will join the Iranian national team in their preparations for the three crucial World Cup qualifiers in June.

The goalgetter will therefore miss the friendly matches against Oman (May 22) and Iraq (May 27).

Ghoochannejhad signed with Standard Liege last summer after scoring 12 goals in 23 games in Belgian first league and Cup for Sint Truiden. However, it was agreed that the now 25-year-old would stay with relegated Sint Truiden for another half season and join Standard in January.

After another 10 goals in 12 games for Sint Truiden, Ghoochannejhad also had a good start with Standard, establishing himself as fixed players and creating some goals. But after failing to get his name on the scoresheet, he lost his position during spring.
