Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Esteghlal football team was knocked out of Iran’s Hazfi Cup by Mes of Kerman on Tuesday.

In the match held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, Mes beat Esteghlal 2-1 at a snowy field in the semi-final round.

Brazilian striker Edinho put the visitors ahead with a fine curling free kick just seven minutes into the match.

Amirhossein Sadeghi found the back of the net with a header five minutes later.

With five minutes remaining, Edinho completed his brace on a counter attack.

Esteghlal coach Amir Ghalenoei accepted the blame after his team was beaten at home.

“It’s my fault we lost. I had to make changes in the second half. Our strikers missed their chances as well,” Ghalenoei said in the post match news conference.

Tractor Sazi of Tabriz also edged past Foolad of Khuzestan and booked a place in the final.

Saeid Daghighi headed the ball into the goal in the 76th minute. It was Tony Oliveira’s first win in charge of Tractor Sazi.

The final match will be held on February 14, however the officials have yet to decide the location of the match.
