In the match held in Doha’s Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, Al Rayyan defeated Esteghlal 1-0 in Group A.
Nigerian striker Kalu Uche opened the empty net for the host after Esteghlal goalkeeper Mehdi Rahmati made a big mistake in the 14th minute.
Esteghlal was really unlucky in this match since the Iranian representative hit the bar twice.
Esteghlal had lost to Al Shabab of Saudi Arabia 1-0 in its first match in a home game.
The Iranian giant will host Al Jazira of the United Arab Emirates on March 18 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
