TehranTimes – TEHRAN, Head of Iran Football Federation (IFF) Ali Kaffashian said that Carlos Queiroz will remain as the country’s coach.

Carlos Queiroz announced his retirement following Iran’s World Cup exit, however, the Portuguese returned to Iran and said that he is ready to negotiate with the Iranian federation but they should offer him a written request.

“We’ve offered our suggestions to him on contract renewal and we will have to wait to hear from him,” Kaffashian told IRNA.

It has been widely reported the new deal costs four million euros (2.5 million for himself and 1.5 million for his assistants) per year. IFF had already announced it could not afford to pay that.

“We should be able to provide financial resources. We also want the Iranian coaches have a chance to work in the staff,” IFF president added.

Iran opened the 2014 World Cup campaign with a goalless draw against Nigeria. The Persians suffered a late painful loss against Argentina and lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-1 in Group F.

Team Melli is preparing itself for the 2015 Asian Cup, which will be held in Australia from January 9 to 31.
