Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Persepolis was knocked out of the Iran’s Hazfi Cup on Friday at the hands of Zob Ahan football team.

The Isfahan-based team advanced to the final match after a 2-1 victory over the Iranian popular outfit in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

Mohammad Nouri gave Persepolis a lead just after the hour-mark.

Persepolis captain’s effort was cancelled out by Morteza Tabrizi in the 69th minute.

Three minutes later, Persepolis was reduced to 10-man after defender Michael Umana collected a second yellow card.

In the dying moments of the match, Zob Ahan Brazilian defender Carlos Santos de Jesus opened Persepolis’s goal with a header.

“First, I congratulate Zob Ahan but I have to say we didn’t deserve to lose. I believe that Umana did not deserve to be shown a second yellow card,” Persepolis coach Derakhshan said in the post match news conference.

Zob Ahan will meet the winner of Padideh and Naft in the final match.
