Iraq, Japan winners in AFC Asian Cup’s fourth day
Press TV – NEWCASTLE, Japan and Iraq have managed to beat their opponents on the fourth day of the AFC Asian Cup, which is underway in Australia.
Goals by Yasuhito Endo, Shinji Okazaki, Keisuke Honda and Maya Yoshida were enough for Japan to pick up the three points from the match against Palestine in Newcastle Stadium. The four-time continental winner is scheduled to meet Iraq on Friday in what may be the decisive match in Group D.
Palestine coach, Ahmed Al-Hassan, however, said after the match that he is proud of the players in their first-ever appearance in the AFC Asian Cup.
Meanwhile, Iraq’s Jaser Kasim scored a late winner to seal a crucial victory for Iraq against Jordan. The 2007 champions showed their quality as they fought a hardly-contested match in Brisbane Stadium. Iraq and Japan are now level on points on top of the table in Group D.
