Australia, S Korea snatch second victory in AFC Asian Cup
Press TV – CANBERRA, South Korea and Australia have booked their place in the AFC Asian Cup’s last eight.
South Korea beat Kuwait 1-0 in Canberra Stadium on Tuesday to be the first team to reach the quarterfinals of the competition. The sole goal of the match came in the 35th minute when Nam Tae-hee headed the ball into the goal.
The unconvincing victory assured the South Koreans of a place in the knock-out stages as they managed to beat Oman 1-0 in their match of the competition.
Australians also came victorious in their second match of the cup with another showpiece in Stadium Australia on Tuesday. The Socceroos hammered Oman 4-0, a close replication of their result against Kuwait in the opening match of the tournament.
Matt McKay and Robbie Kruse scored in the final three minutes of the first half while Mark Milligan and Tomi Juric added to the tally in the second to claim an impressive victory for the hosts of the tournament.
Australia and South Korea are now level on points on top of the Group A table. They will face each other on Saturday to determine the top position in the group, although a draw will be enough for Australians to win the group on goal differences.
