Tehran Times – MASHHAD, Persepolis football team has defeated Padideh in the 13th week of Iran Professional League in Mashhad on Saturday.

Last season’s top scorer Mehdi Taremi gave visitors the lead in the 21st minute with a header from inside the six yard box.

Four minutes later Padideh made a dangerous counter attack as Mohsen Yousefi dribbled past several Persepolis defenders and found the back of the net from six-yard area.

The score line was leveled until the 92nd minute when Vahid Amiri converted Ahmad Nourolahi’s corner with a close range header to give Persepolis a late win.

“We were the better side in the second half and we deserved to win. I would like to thank my players, who fought until the last second. Without a doubt, Padideh goalkeeper was their best player. I’m totally satisfied with all of my player’s performance. I hope Amiri and Taremi continue this goal scoring form in the upcoming matches,” Persepolis coach Branko Ivankovic told reporters in the post-match press conference.

Padideh coach Reza Mohajeri bemoaned his team’s performance in the final minutes.

“We conceded the second goal when there was no time to make up. Persepolis players are more experienced while my players are so young, they knew how to earn the three points in tough games like this,” Mohajeri said.

The game was originally scheduled to kick off on Friday but it was moved to Saturday due to the bad weather condition.

Persepolis moves top with 29 points from 13 games while Tractor Sazi is second with 27.
