AFC – CHONBURI, Chinese Taipei and Philippines registered their second successive wins in their 2020 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Qualifiers Round 1 campaign while Islamic Republic of Iran and Myanmar opened with wins as India and Nepal played to a draw on Thursday.

Four group winners and the two best runners-up will join Uzbekistan and Vietnam in the second round of the Qualifiers.

IR Iran opened their Group B campaign with an emphatic 7-0 win over Lebanon at the Institute of Physical Education Stadium.

Playing in the neutral venue of Chonburi, Thailand, Iran wasted no time in taking the lead with Samaneh Chahkandi opening the scoring in the ninth minute.

The Central Asians were assured a three-goal lead going into the break when Zahra Ghanbari and Chahkandi scored a goal each in the 38th and 44th minutes respectively.

Lebanon suffered further setback in the second half as Ghanbari and Hajar Dabbaghi continued Iran’s goalscoring trend in the 54th and 57th minute respectively.

66 minutes into the game, Ghanbari completed her hat-trick.

On the stroke of full-time, Melika Motevalli made it 6-0, and Dabbaghi secured her second six minutes into added time to record a convincing win.

In the three-team Group B, Lebanon will look to bounce back from their loss when they play their final match against Hong Kong on Saturday, before Iran face the East Asians on Monday.
