Tottenham’s striker offer revealed amid Harry Kane’s summer transfer saga
Football.London – LONDON, Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun was not linked with Spurs at any point but claims he received an offer to move to north London during the transfer window.
Zenit St Petersburg striker Sardar Azmoun has revealed he received an offer from Tottenham during the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old Iranian is at the current time one of the most prolific forwards in Russian football. Since joining Zenit from Ruben Kazan in 2019, he has scored 58 goals in 90 matches in all competitions including six in his opening seven league games of the current campaign.
Whilst he was a name that never quite appeared in the gossip columns, Azmoun himself has revealed that he received an offer from the north Londoners as they aimed to find a replacement for Harry Kane, who had expressed his desire for a new challenge.
Azmoun also admitted that he is unlikely to depart the Russian giants this season, whether or not Spurs retain their interest.
Speaking to Soccer RU, the Zenit man said: “I had offers from Lyon, Roma, Bayer, and Tottenham. But all the proposals were rejected, this year I will not move anywhere.
“I never said that I was leaving Zenit. When Lyon made the first offer, Zenit rejected it immediately. I have a contract, even if I wanted to leave, the club will not allow it.”
In the end, it was certainly not too much of a worry that Spurs saw their offer declined, with Kane electing to remain in north London.
Nevertheless, it goes without saying that his goalscoring talents would certainly have come in useful with Nuno Espirito Santo not having a natural striking option to support Kane should he be unavailable.
Intriguingly, Azmoun is not the first player to have indicated Spurs interest this summer.
Villarreal defender Pau Torres has also admitted that he too received an offer from the club but decided to remain in Spain, forcing Tottenham to then turn their attentions to the services of Atalanta defender Cristian Romero.
